More Flights Cancelled…American Apologizes

April 9, 2008 at 4:50 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

Total flights now cancelled today at DFW airport top 336.  Just talked with more passengers who think they will be here for a second night.  The airline is trying to get them hotel vouchers so they won’t be sleeping in the airport tonight.

American apologized to passengers at a news conference this afternoon.  The company claims mechanics thought there was some “leeway” in following the F-A-A requirements related to the wiring on its MD-80’s.  The F-A-A has now said there is no leeway – and that everything needs to follow the letter of the law.  Keep in mind the F-A-A is ramping things up right now under pressure from Congress, in the wake of the inspection debacle at Southwest Airlines.

One final piece of bad news tonight….the airline says the cancellations could continue through Friday.
