My Pictures of the LBJ Freeway Truck Crash

Wanted to share these. Took them with my cell phone when I first got to the truck crash at LBJ and Stemmons today. There were a few moments when we thought the truck was going to slide down the embankment. It was a little tricky for the fire department and the tow truck operators to pull it back up over the railing but they did a great job.
I sent my pictures from the scene on my blackberry to our isee@nbc5i.com e-mail and other people did too. We got some of the best images of this story from viewers who e-mailed or called to share their video. The cell phone video we aired at 5pm today shot by Paul Trantham was amazing. He captured the moment the truck trailer bent in half. Another reminder of how almost nothing happens today without someone catching it on tape!
Latest on I-30 Bridge Problems
May 5, 2008 at 8:38 am | In Uncategorized | 1 CommentJust talked to Randy Black at TxDot. He tells me the pavement that fell from the I-30 Bridge near downtown this morning was caused by “spider cracks” that ended up going all the way through the pavement. He says the bridge was just inspected in the last 30 days and no problems were found at the time. TxDot blames age and weather.
This is the second time we’ve seen a section of pavement fall from a bridge in N. Texas recently. Last September a large chunk of pavement fell from the 407 bridge over I-35 in Lewisville. Obviously, more questions for us to ask about the condition of the bridge involved in this morning’s incident. Much more on our newscasts at 4,5, & 6.
